Data sources and licenses
Where the data and texts on Who Reports Today come from, on what terms we use them and how we credit them.
Data
- US companies — SEC EDGAR filings: 10-Q and 10-K reports (XBRL), 8-K earnings releases and DEF 14A proxy statements. SEC filings are public records.
- S&P 500 — constituents and sectors (the GICS classification) from Wikipedia’s list of S&P 500 companies and S&P Dow Jones Indices press releases; index weights are our estimate from market capitalization (stockanalysis.com).
- Wikidata — tickers and leadership history; Wikidata is CC0.
Reported figures are facts; what we add is how they are put together, computed and drawn. We check them against the filings, but mistakes are possible — for anything important, open the company’s report, linked from every card.
Company descriptions from Wikipedia
The short company description on a card is an abridged first paragraph of the Wikipedia article. That text is available under CC BY-SA 4.0: next to it you will find a link to the article, the license and the note “abridged”. If you reuse it, credit Wikipedia under the same license. Where there is no article, we write the description ourselves (see how we make it).
Our own material
Charts (report diagrams, sector maps, preview images) may be reused under the CC BY 4.0 license with credit to Who Reports Today. Index constituents and weights shown on the maps belong to the index providers and are not covered by our license. Other site text, the apps and their code are © Who Reports Today.
Fonts
- Unbounded — © 2022 The Unbounded Project Authors.
- WRT Sans and WRT Mono — modified (subset) versions of IBM Plex Sans and IBM Plex Mono, © IBM Corp. “Plex” is a Reserved Font Name, so our versions are named differently.
All fonts are licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
Software
The site and apps are built on open-source software — Next.js, React, Capacitor and other libraries under the MIT and Apache 2.0 licenses.
